#1 Dartmouth and #2 Quinnipiac Set to Clash in National Championship

HAMDEN, Conn. - After notching semifinal wins in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) semifinals, #1 Dartmouth College and #2 Quinnipiac University will square off in the National Championship on Sunday at Quinnipiac University. Kickoff is slated for 12pm. 

The two-time reigning National Champions, Quinnipiac, earned the opportunity to defend their title by defeating Central Washington University 41-26 in the semifinals. The team rallied after trailing 12-7 at the half by scoring 24 unanswered points and shutting out the potent CWU offense in the final 22 minutes of the match. Senior Ilona Maher notched three tries on the day while Senior Flora Poole led the Bobcats with two assists. 

 

Number one seed Dartmouth defeated their Ivy League counterpart in Harvard University 17-12 in the second semifinal of the afternoon. The second half saw the Dartmouth offense click as senior Frankie Sands and junior Camille Johnson both scored tries along with conversions from Kat Ramage extend the lead to 17-0. Harvard didn't go down without a fight, scoring two tries and one conversion to bring the game within five, but it wasn't enough as the Big Green held on to secure the win.
